Tom Hitchcock wins Queensland Chef of the Year

Tom Hitchcock has been named Queensland Chef of the Year, winning the prestigious title as well as $2,500 cash, valuable prizes and a trip to Sydney to compete in the national competition later this year. Head Judge Karen Doyle says Hitchcock was an outstanding competitor. “He displayed great innovation, had a special way with combining flavours, and showed great depth of knowledge with his techniques. Finalists announced for Queensland Chef of the Year

Brisbane is set to host 28 of the best chefs in Queensland in a pressure-cooker contest that will pit these culinary professionals against the clock and each other. This elite cooking contest is being held at Food & Hospitality Queensland, the first major food industry event to run for almost three years. Peter Wright to run Queensland Chef of the Year

Well known chef Peter Wright has been appointed as Director of the Queensland Chef of the Year competition, taking over from Gary Farrell who ran the event for last decade but was tragically lost to a heart attack last month. This year the Queensland Chef of the Year competition will be running as part of the Food & Hospitality Queensland exhibition at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from 1-2 August. Food & Hospitality Queensland returns in 2021

The organisers of Food & Hospitality Queensland are excited to announce that the show will be returning from 1-2 August 2021 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. It will feature over 160 exhibitors and a series of special events for industry professionals. “We are seeing real demand for an event that brings the industry back together to reconnect and rebuild” says Event Director Tim Collett. Mathew Lee named Queensland Chef of the Year 2019

The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre’s talented Sous Chef, Mathew Lee, was named ‘Queensland Chef of the Year’ at the second ever competition held this week as part of Food & Hospitality Queensland. After two days of heated competition on his home turf at the BCEC, Lee was pronounced the winner, scoring highest in the Grand Final against Jason McCormick from Plate Art, Grant Parry from Videre at Royal Pines Resort and Anthony Dunne from Mr Edward’s Alehouse & Kitchen. A total of 28 chefs were selected to compete in Brisbane on Sunday and Monday. Each chef prepared two dishes in an hour from a mystery box of ingredients, and the four highest-scoring chefs faced off in the Grand Final.  Read Now

The second Food & Hospitality Queensland Expo was held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre this week, with the industry-only event inundated by visitors eager to see the latest products and suppliers for their business. Exhibition Director Tim Collett says the show’s success reflects the industry’s growth and appetite for new products and services. He says, “A few years ago we saw a real need for Queensland to have its own food and hospitality expo. We have been blown away by the way Queenslanders have embraced it and made it their own”. Brisbane is set to host 28 of the Sunshine State’s hottest chefs in a pressure-cooker contest that will pit competitors against the clock and each other. This elite contest is being held at Food & Hospitality Queensland, 4-5 August at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre with finalists from all corners of the hospitality industry – demonstrating the breadth of talent and skills across the state. Last year’s winner, Marcus Hillier from Factory 51 in Brisbane, is returning to defend his title and many chefs are having a crack for a second time.
